Round 2 & 3 - Winton
Round Two/Three Report - Craig McMartin, Ducati 749.
Craig McMartin, riding the Carbonize sponsored Ducati 749R, continued his impressive start to the 2007 Pro Twins Championship with 4 wins from 4 starts in the Pro-Twins class at Winton Raceway's first double-header round on 22-25 March.
Riding the Supersport spec Ducati 749R with treaded tyre's in the combined Naked bike/Pro-Twins class, McMartin had to contend with the high power FZ1 Yamaha's of Scott Charlton and Jon Cartwright on the demanding Winton layout.
After qualifying in second position, less than half a second from Scott Charlton's pole time, McMartin was in a tight battle for the lead throughout Saturday's round 2 events, finishing second overall and first in the Pro-Twins class. McMartin would close on Charlton during the tighter sections of the circuit before Charlton would pull clear in the straights on the powerful FZ1, Charlton took the win from McMartin with Cartwright finishing 3rd in Saturday's race's.
Sunday's round 3 was a similar affair with McMartin closing on Charlton and challenging for the lead on a number of occasions before Charlton would power ahead in fast open sections of the circuit. McMartin won on the track in the final race of the weekend however, was penalised 10 seconds after a slight movement before the race start.
Craig now leads the Pro-Twins Championship by 55 points from Mick Johnston after 3 rounds of the championship and is looking forward to the next round.
